SilentGuard TS Mold-Resistant Gypsum Shaftliner

SilentGuard TS

Mold-Resistant Gypsum Shaftliner

SilentGuard TS is a gypsum shaftliner panel manufactured to provide fire resistance, sound control and construction efficiency. It is an ideal material for use in elevator shafts, stairwells, air and mechanical shafts, and area separation walls. In addition, SilentGuard TS features Temple-Inland's TemShield mold protection system to give it extra resistance to mold and mildew damage, before as well as after installation.

Features:

  • UL approved for use in fire-rated assemblies.
  • Consists of specially treated, 100 percent recycled paper faces and an enhanced core for improved mold and mildew resistance.
  • Provides a fast, cost-efficient alternative to masonry construction for various fire-rated shaft and area separation walls.
  • Non-load bearing system, but has been designed and tested to withstand the air pressure forces generated by high-speed, high-rise elevators.
  • Approved in several area separation wall assemblies.

Limitations:

For use only in non-load bearing assemblies. Avoid exposure to excessive or continuous moisture. Avoid exposure to prolonged, excessive temperatures over 125°F (52°C).

Mold and Mildew Resistance:

TemShield shaftliner provides a significant degree of mold resistance compared to untreated panels when tested per ASTM D3273 (Standard Test Method for Resistance to Growth of Mold on the Surface of Interior Coatings in an Environmental Chamber). This means the potential for growth of mold and mildew is greatly reduced.

This ASTM lab test may not be applicable to the actual performance of building materials. No material may be labeled mold proof, and resistance to mold growth depends on many factors. Prolonged exposure to moisture may cause mold and mildew to grow on any surface. Therefore, in order to maximize the mold and mildew resistance of a material, it is essential that good design, handling and construction practices be implemented. This involves avoiding water exposure during all phases of storage, handling, shipping, installation and after installation is complete.

Recycled Content Certification:

Temple-Inland SilentGuard TS shaftliner is certified in accordance to ISO 14021 standards to have recycled material content. All certified products feature a gypsum core sandwiched between recycled facers. Our SilentGuard TS shaftliner is available with up to 95% certified recycled content for environmental “green” requirements. The recycled content levels of board produced at our Cumberland City, Tennessee and West Memphis, Arkansas facilities are third-party verified by Scientific Certification Systems (SCS). This certified material composition can contribute toward recycled material credits in the LEED rating system as well as other rating systems.
